Camilla's Mantle

Image
In my knitting projects of 2015 post, I did some work on a cowl for Camilla. Originally, it looked like this, and she wore it for the winter of 2015 before coming to me and asking me to tackle it again. It was never blocked and she asked me to lengthen and widen it, and then she asked if it was possible for me to add a hood to it. I was flattered she liked it so much she wanted more done to it, so I agreed to try my best. This is after I had ripped it back, added more length and width to it, and blocked it. It looks like a totally different cowl! Then the hard part. I was least sure of the hood, but I knew some basics in how to make one, so I measured around my head and such (my head is a little bigger than hers) and cast on flat. I did manage to finish it! I put the same pattern on the edge as is on the edge of the cowl piece, I did some shaping with short rows in the back and had a line of purl stitches down the center to help it come to a point, as req...

Mending Day and Refashioning Ideas

Image
Having spent yet another Saturday devoted to my hobbies, I came home tonight afire with ideas. Last week I had attended a mini-war and didn't have any photos, but it did bring something to my attention. My red raw silk dress needed work. So today, my amazing friends Camilla and Rosslyn fixed the problem. Forgive the night shot--I would've forgotten entirely if I hadn't taken the photo tonight. Simply amazing what those ladies can do in an hour. Rosslyn also made me a mockup pattern for bog shoes, so I can stop running around wars in my mary janes. Just need a good leather to make them out of. I did a ton of mending though. So far this month, I've mended two pairs of pants (one twice), two pairs of socks, and a skirt. I have another skirt in the mending pile, but that one will be tricky. It's ...

Alterations and Confidence

I borrowed Rosslyn's sewing machine for the weekend, intending on buckling down and making a dent into my fabric stash and churning out some nice new pieces. However, my brain was eaten along the last day or two by this blog:  Elegant Musings . I love vintage clothing, specifically from the forties and fifties and she makes them so lovely! And then I came across  this tutorial . Ideas for new clothes flew out of my head. I have few clothes left from my purge at the beginning of the year, but there are a couple items that could use some work... My mom gave me this purple sweater about half a year ago and it didn't fit her and it didn't even really fit me, as you can see. It was a bit of a tent, the sleeves were too long, and whenever I wore it I spent the whole day adjusting the collar to keep it from showing my underthings and/or too much cleavage. Don't get me wrong; I like my bust line. But I don't need to be showing it in such detail to everyone else! The penci...
