In His Steps

Our annual Twelfth Night was held after my family visited and with a great deal more planning than previous times, so we all didn't have to wait while the cooks did their thing. Instead, it was all ready beforehand! As much as I love cooking with my House, sometimes you're just hungry . Camilla, fixing her beads. Spousal Unit, being adorable. The basbousa I made in my castle mold--I need to use my dragon mold next! The cake is thick and heavy, like a pound cake, with a lemon and rose essence syrup poured over it. After dinner. We were starving. We had my best pork ever recipe, since it's a very medieval flavor pallet, the basbousa cake, cecina, Martinelli's and juice, lightly sauteed greens, and before the meal there was a cheese and sausage platter with apples to tide over hungry stomachs. I mostly just want to show this amazing costume/rig Rosslyn did this year. I walked around keeping an eye on her and being her advocate for the terrified children (or the extremely curious children--we had one cute 4 year old playing 100 Questions). We'll be upgrading it a bit for next year but the kids wanted us to promise to return, so you might be seeing better shots of this next year!

I'm a little behind on this due to the craziness that was November, but! I want to catch up. This party was at Rosslyn's parents' home and as usual it was AMAZING!! They really know how to party. Check it out. The front of the house was fully decked out with the creepy circus theme in the graveyard, with ghosts in the windows and a circus cart on the lawn, smoke billowing... I went to Harvest War again! I went with Rosslyn, Spousal Unit, and our friend El. We hung out and wandered about, attended classes and made friends! Egyptian is apparently a thing in the SCA! El was ecstatic to hear that. Check out this Hittite armor! We went to court and it was nice to see. Spousal Unit thought he would be funny. El. And I got a new sideless surcoat! And I ended the day kicking everyone's trash playing Vomiting Monk, a period game like Uno.
