Mom's Crocheted Burgundy Scarf

Image
Way back in 2008, I started crocheting a scarf for my mother. This was before I learned to knit and had a phone with a working camera. I gave it to her for Christmas, never took a picture of it, and because it was in California, she didn't have much opportunity to wear it, but this year in the beginning of January, she and my brother visited my sister and I! It was icy and cold and snowing... so she brought it! Mom also left it by accident when she went home, so I grabbed it and finally, almost ten years later, I took a picture of it! I loved working with the yarn and it kept her nice and warm. Here's the Ravelry page link .

Octopuses For Tara

Image
I made little crochet octopuses and originally I had intended them for Christmas gifts for Tara, but she has been going through a difficult time, so I gave them to her immediately upon their completion. I was making them because I had leftover yarn in Tara's colors and wanted to make her something new and clean out some space in my stash. It's a dumbo octopus! She was pretty pleased to have them and they guard her car now. She calls them her derpy little octopuses, heehee.

Knitting Projects 2015

Image
I have continued knitting through the last year and into this one, but I forgot to post a great deal of them. Here is all the knitting (and crochet) I hadn't posted that had been completed last year. Bellatrix Socks I started these on my trip to New Hampshire in October 2014, but they were not completed until January 2015 due to making one the wrong size and having to rip it back and finish it. They are now my Halloween socks. ^_^ Grandma's Grey Blanket My Grandma Sugars was cleaning out her garage before selling her house and we came upon a crocheted grey blanket that wasn't finished but had plenty more yarn to do so with. She offered it to me (apparently arthritis stopped her from finishing it) so I accepted. After pulling out a couple stitches, I determined it was a double-held yarn and single crochet stitch, so I set to work on it right away. The whole thing smelled like 20 years' worth of dust, so I was glad to wash it! I gave...

Reusing Yarn

Originally posted 10/1/13: Remember this crochet project? Well, I came to realize that these armwarmers were far too big for me and quite garish for my usual style. But, I still loved the yarn, so I ripped them back and got to knitting. This was around when I was moving to cooler climbs and had friends with children about to do the same thing. So, I began a little hat for their tiny daughter. Here is the completed hat before I gifted it to them. Still having a lot left, I decided that the acrylic yarn was ideal for dishcloths! This one was made for my own home. I made these two for a couple little girls for Christmas. I hope they will like them. They are princess crown washcloths. I still have a whole skein left of this yarn. We'll see what I end up making of it. I've somewhat designated this yarn as the "little girl" yarn.

Felicia Day Crochets!

I'm sure most crafters have seen this by now, but if not, enjoy! She's a delight, and I love seeing men learn these things as well. Enjoy watching others learning to croquet--er, crochet.

Crochet Progression

Originally posted 3/21/12: These are the items I have made with crochet, and in some cases the yarns themselves before they became articles of clothing or fun little items. My knitted items will follow in the next post. My first completed project was a scarf, of course. I fondly refer to this one as my Amoeba Scarf. I had absolutely no concept of counting my stitches or how to turn it or start a row. I just sort of..."did" it.   My second project was a scarf I made for my mother. Unfortunately, as she has it, I do not; therefore, I have no pictures of it at this time. I not only counted but I was meticulous at making sure the changing colors in the yarn pooled in the way I wanted them to. It was actually very pretty, at least I thought so. A gift from my mother and sister for Christmas a couple years back. Used some, thinking about using more. Red Heart Super Saver Multi in Bon Bon Print. This yarn was used to create the following, thoug...

Crochet Projects!

Image
I have such a huge backlog of projects I almost feel ashamed of myself. Now, I've been crocheting for perhaps two and a half years now, but I am not very good. Rosslyn taught me a single stitch: the most basic stitch you can. I learned a few more from a book later that week. About a month later I had this: My first completed project was a scarf, of course. I fondly refer to this one as my Amoeba Scarf. I had absolutely no concept of counting my stitches or how to turn it or start a row. I just sort of..."did" it. I not only counted but I was meticulous at making sure the changing colors in the yarn pooled in the way I wanted them to. It was actually very pretty, at least I thought so. My next project was made with some yarn my family gave me for Christmas. The wild colors appealed to me (I adore color), so I made arm warmer...
